RALEIGH — A bill resurfaced in the North Carolina Senate to set rules and authorize drilling for natural gas under the surface of the state.
State Sen. Bob Rucho, R-Mecklenburg, introduced Senate Bill 820 in the Senate Commerce Committee to bring back an old panel and initiate an exploration into hydraulic fracturing. His bill would reconstitute the Mining Commission of the 1940s and rename it the Mining and Energy Commission.
Last year, the governor vetoed a similar bill.
