House Speaker Joe Straus

AUSTIN — With top lieutenants falling in House primaries Tuesday, it was an obvious issue as Texas House Speaker Joe Straus met with members of the media.

Straus, R-San Antonio, confronted that issue and the expected challenge to him as speaker by saying, “I felt good with the results all in all.”

Those results include the upset of three Straus-appointed Republican committee chairmen:

  • State Rep. Rob Eissler, of The Woodlands, head of the Public Education Committee;
  • State Rep. Vicki Truitt, of Keller, head of the Pensions, Investments and Financial Services Committee;
  • State Rep. Mike Hamilton, of Mauriceville, head of the Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee.
