PA: Business professionals speak out against ACA

HARRISBURG — Proponents of businesses big and small are crossing their fingers a majority of justices on the U.S. Supreme Court see the Affordable Care Act as they do.

A discussion about the effects to business of the landmark legislation was held Wednesday at the Republican Party of Pennsylvania headquarters here, attended by business owners and advocates.

Dave Taylor, executive director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association, said companies are holding on to their assets because of the uncertainty surrounding the legislation.

“It’s depressing hiring, it’s stifling the recovery, and it’s keeping private investment on the sidelines,” he said.

Some of the provisions cited in the legislation were premium increases for employers and employees, a 1099-requirement for small businesses, fines regarding the individual mandate, and a medical device tax levied on industry.
