ALEXANDRIA—Gov. Bob McDonnell applauded Loudoun County’s vote to partake in the Silver Line project Tuesday, signaling his hope that planning for the troubled transit had cleared its last hurdle.
“The governor is pleased by today’s vote of the Loudoun County Board to extend metro rail to Dulles airport,” McDonnell spokesman Jeff Caldwell said in a statement. “This is a critically important project to both reduce congestion as well as spur economic growth and job creation in Northern Virginia.”
Securing Loudoun has been a key goal for both the McDonnell administration and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which will build the line, though the pair have been dueling these past months over project costs.
“As this project moves forward, the governor will continue to demand that it is done in a cost-efficient and accountable manner to protect Virginia taxpayers and tollpayers going forward,” Caldwell said.
