School choice as the avenue for making every child matter

As part of the Every Child Matters campaign, the American Federation for Children released a public service announcement Wednesday that highlights the link between school choice and making every child count.

The video features 15 athletes and celebrities, including Shaquille O’Neal, Laila Ali, Holly Robinson Peete and Niecy Nash.

The video highlights the fact that 1.3 million children drop out of school every year in America — kids who might have stayed in school if they had been in one that worked for them.

Kevin Chavous, founding board member of the American Federation for Children, said in a statement that the aim is “highlighting this discussion at a national level.” The message will target families in Memphis, Nashville, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tallahassee, Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Jackson, Reno, Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago.
