Maritime magnet school to open in Maine

Educators and maritime professionals plan to open the Maine Ocean School, a “public magnet school for marine science, technology, transportation and engineering,” featuring a state curriculum that “exceeds state standards.”

The number one goal is to educate kids in an employable local industry. “Our real mission is getting kids to be able to stay in Maine after leaving high school,” Captain Eric Jergenson, board chairman and an assistant professor at Maine Maritime Academy, said Monday.
