Delegates expected a contentious Kansas GOP Committee meeting Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, but voted strong support for grass roots positions. Last-minute negotiations facilitated by GOP Delegate Steve Shute, who is also a tea party group leader, and supported by Kansas GOP leadership, produced a resolution against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) that received unanimous approval from delegates.

After the meeting elected representatives told KansasWatchdog what they thought was important about the meeting.

Steve Shute, a delegate from Gardner and founder of the Union of Patriots, introduced a strongly worded resolution against Obamacare in a suit and tie. KansasWatchdog caught up with Shute later in the day wearing jeans at a meeting of Kansas tea party group leaders. His participation in both arenas helped him forge a last-ditch agreement that helped bring grass roots activists and GOP leadlers closer together.

KansasWatchdog also interviewed Kansas Republican Party Chair Amanda Adkins after the committee meeting. Unfortunately the audio failed to record because of a technical problem.

This was a good meeting and a step in the right direction IF elected officials will adhere to the GOP platform which doesn’t seem to be the case.

Why did you cut out the best part of Steve Shute’s friendly amendment to praise the Tea Party and grass roots? Please publish his entire statement. It was an awesome statement and should have been a part of your video above. Please publish it on your site or send it to me via email. It was a great day for the Tea Party of Kansas and his statement was the rallying cry to bring our factions together for the betterment of Kansas.
