SPRINGFIELD – Lawmakers say Governor Pat Quinn owes voters an explanation for the state’s budget mess.
Quinn is scheduled to deliver his State of the State address in Springfield on Wednesday.
The speech gives governors the opportunity to reflect on last year and set an agenda for this year.
But lawmakers don’t think Quinn will say much.
Republican State Representative Jil Tracy says Quinn should outline a plan to reduce the state’s record budget deficit.
With the primary election approaching, some lawmakers are concerned Quinn will skim over the state’s problems.
Democratic State Representative Pat Verschoore says Quinn won’t play politics with the speech.
Statehouse observers say Quinn will avoid budget talk in order to maintain voter support.
Quinn is vying with state Comptroller Dan Hynes for the Democratic bid for governor.
