SPRINGFIELD – Rod Blagojevich says he could return to politics if he avoids conviction in federal court.
But Mattoon Republican Dale Righter says Blagojevich can't hold a local elected or state elected position.
Righter was one of the lawmakers who voted to remove Blagojevich from office in January 2009 and forbid him from ever holding office in Illinois again.
Eastern Illinois Democrat Toi Hutchinson, says the former governor is preparing for a possible re-trial.
Last week jurors could not decide on 23 of the 24 corruption counts against Blagojevich.
Federal prosecutors have already indicated they intend to re-try the former Illinois governor.
