Gordon backs away from Quinn’s appointment

SPRINGFIELD — It’s back to the drawing board for Gov. Pat Quinn as he tries to figure out who will take over the empty seat on the Prisoner Review Board.

Former state Rep. Careen Gordon withdrew her nomination late Wednesday. Quinn nominated her in January, but Gordon remained unconfirmed because of Republican objections.

Republican Sen. Sue Rezin took over Gordon’s position in the House before being appointed to the Senate.

Democrat Sen. Kimberly Lightford serves on the committee that reviewed her qualifications. She says Gordon’s experience as a prosecutor made her a worthy candidate.

A Quinn spokeswoman says the Governor is in the process of finding a replacement.
