NM: State magazine to turn profit after losses, layoffs

SANTA FE — Capitol Report New Mexico has confirmed that despite layoffs, New Mexico Magazine is expected to turn a profit after losing $1.4 million in the past two years.

Seven staffers from the magazine — which is funded by the state’s Tourism Department — were laid off in September as part of cuts in the overall department budget.

Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson said changes to the magazine were needed and hired new leadership for the monthly publication that is the country’s oldest state magazine.
