HELENA — Bozeman businessman Steve Daines is keeping his foot on the gas in the money race for Montana’s lone congressional seat.
Daines, the Republican hoping to succeed outgoing GOP U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg, continues to crush state Sen. Kim Gillan, D-Billings, in the money game.
According to the latest Federal Election Commission reports, Daines raised about $240,00 in the past three months, while Gillan amassed approximately $136,000.
Daines holds $853,224 cash on hand, nearly 10 times Gillan’s $87,905.
Gillan comes into the general election contest out of an expensive seven-way Democratic primary contest that featured two well-known public officials. Gillan took the contest with just more than 30 percent of the vote. Daines, on the other hand, had nominal opposition, spent little on the primary and coasted to victory.
Gillan’s haul puts her at just more than $340,000 for the election cycle. Daines has collected more than $1.1 million for his election bid.
Rehberg is leaving Montana’s House seat to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester for his seat.
