HI: Health department to raise beverage tax

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Department of Health plans to increase the controversial 6 cent beverage container tax by a half cent, starting Sept. 1.

This increase is needed, because the state Legislature has raided the fund that collects this revenue for three years to the tune of $10 million to balance the state operating budget.
