Omaha Democrats Go Back to the Future With Biden

By   /   September 18, 2010  /   12 Comments

When Vice President Joe Biden campaigns for Congressional hopeful Tom White later this month, it will be the first time in 16 years the White House has hit the ground in Omaha for a fellow Democrat.

In 1994 Al Gore came to Omaha for Congressman Peter Hoagland who was in a tough re-election fight against Republican Jon Christensen. But Christensen won.

White is hoping for a far better outcome and according to Democratic Party insider John Green, Biden’s visit means, “Money and prestige.” Green says it’s also a strong indication the Obama Administration believes White can send Terry packing.

In his campaign commercials White, who is trying to unseat six term incumbent Congressman Lee Terry (NE-R), has not mentioned he’s a Democrat. And in a statement announcing Biden’s September 30 fundraiser at Omaha’s Field Club, White’s campaign said, “Vice President Biden knows what he’s getting in Tom White: an independent leader…”

Asked about the Biden visit, the Terry campaign said it had no comment for Nebraska Watchdog.

Earlier this month Nebraska Watchdog first reported that Republican John Boehner, the GOP’s front runner for Speaker of the House if Republicans gain control of the House, made an unpublicized campaign stop in Omaha for Terry. When asked why Boehner’s visit was kept from the public, Terry’s campaign manager David Boomer said it was decided that by keeping things quiet any possible protestors would be kept away.

But there is speculation that in a year when being a Washington insider could be a liability, Boehner’s stealth stop here helps Terry raise money while keeping some distance from Capitol Hill power brokers.

Boomer also said Boehner’s fundraiser was a “very good event.” Boomer would not say how much money was raised.

If the Tom White campaign needs a boost, they do not need Biden to visit. All they need is for No Leadership Lee Terry to cut a few more campaign commercials. Every time “No Leadership Lee” opens his mouth you have to ask yourself, how in the world does that guy keep getting re-elected.

What has “No Leadership Lee” done with his 12 years in Washington?

Omaha other than “No Leadership Lee” will not vote with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid as often as Tom White will, why do we keep sending Lee Terry to Washington? Honestly Is “No Leadership Lee” the best we conservatives can come up with? Am I the only one that feels a little sorry for Lee every time he opens his mouth?

White has already said he supports the Obama agenda. Why would anyone question whether he’s a Democrat?

At least Terry has voted Conservative and against government growth and waste. We can’t afford another Obama rubber stamp in DC.

Well Tom does seem to be trying to claim he is independent. His ads blame both parties for raising the national debt. It would be nice to hear what he will do to fight against the party leadership we have now in control of the houses. He has not said what he would do different or how he would lead his party away from the mistakes they (also) have made. I’m so sorry he has not outlined any plans to implement. With out plans- specific plans- to cut the debt and reduce spending while we work ourselves out of this debt he only sounds like someone who wants to be trusted to do the right thing when he gets there. I would rather hear battle plans about turning around both parties instead of sounding like he is above it all and we are to believe he will stay that way and not fall back into party lines. I would rather have an agenda. Blame them both only goes so far.

John are you serious? Terry has not voted as a Fiscal Conservative. He was a big spender in the Bush administration and he has continued to vote for big Government programs like the first bailout (TARP), Cash for Clunkers, higher cafe standards and the list goes on. I do not want to see Tom White in Washington but lets be honest. “No Leadership Lee Terry is a disaster also.

“Look, John’s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three letter word: J-O-B-S, jobs.”

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and just didn’t talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.”

“You can’t go to a 7-1-1 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent……..I’m not Joking”

Do I need to say more?

  • Mike

Tom White has intelligence and drive. He will not be a rubber stamp for his party but will represent all Nebraskans with integrity.

  • Jim

Hey…If you like Obama, Pelosi, Harry Reid, or can spell or pronounce their names…or even know what office they hold…Vote Tom White! If you don’t know who these people are, or don’t know the English language…try learning that Tom White is JUST LIKE the three listed. Look at Tom White’s record. Higher taxes…MORE Government…MORE Debt…

  • Adam

All of this hullabaloo about White being a ‘rubber stamp for Pelosi and Reid and Obama’….what was Lee Terry for George Bush? Nothing but a rubber stamp that got us into massive debt and two wars. No thank you.

Also, Lee is a senior member of the House, why hasn’t he ran for leadership positions?

I hope the Terry campaign gets some video of Vice President Biden at the White event. It would make for a great “Tom White Democrat, potential member of Team Obama” TV spot.

The Irish bailout, like the Greece bailout and the looming Portugal bailout, isn’t about saving the Irish people, it’s about preserving the elite-owned banking system that leeches off them. Soon there’ll be a Spanish bailout, perhaps French, German & UK bailouts too – when are people universally going to turn round and say NO to this nonsense?
