If it was up to several hundred people crammed into a Sandhills gym for several hours Thursday night, the controversial Keystone XL pipeline would be built in someone else’s backyard or not built at all.
The U.S. State Department’s final public hearing on the $7 billion project was held in the tiny town (population 1,000) of Atkinson where those backing the pipeline were clearly outnumbered.
