Will Theatre Shootings Spark Gun Control Debate in Senate Race?

The last time Democrat Bob Kerrey ran for the U.S. Senate he took on the National Rifle Association.

It was 1994 and Kerrey was defending his vote to ban assault weapons.

Following the theatre shootings in Aurora, Colorado will gun control be a issue in this year’s race between Kerrey and Republican Deb Fischer?

Nebraska Watchdog’s Joe Jordan was asked that question by KFAB radio in Omaha.

    I think there are enough rules that keep more deranged people from doing this. Regular people who follow the rules, hunters, sportsmen & gun enthusiests, shouldn’t have to sweat out if their property is going to be taken because of a knee-jerk reaction.

    I understand Biff’s point, Holmes was a “regular guy” unitl last Friday. Somewhere he snapped.

    I belive in the 2nd Amendment, but not the NRA, their bat-sh*t spokesman nor their right wing agenda. They are the Righ Wing version of PETA, which I also can’t stand.

    The simplest answer is that it’s constitutional to own a gun making any gun ban illegal.

    An even more timely concern is, will CLIMATE CHANGE become an issue in the local US Senate race seeing how both Obama & Romney are ignoring this potential Doomsday situation!!

    Kerrey can come out ahead on this if he convinces the braindead ranchers & farmers that they will be out of business unless step are taken now to try to alter this grave matter.

    If I were Kerrey I’d propose seeking legislation in Congress to start to build a Farm & Ranch irrigation canal system like CA has had for over 50 years now which makes the Desert Central Valley the produce farming center that feeds the world with fruits & vegatables. This would use the waters from the Missouri & Platt to send it all over the state.

    Remember all you bible thumpers, ” God Gave the Rainbow Sign, NO MORE WATER, the FIRE next time!!!” Looks like the Fire has started now, doesn’t it???? God must really be pissed at you Nebraskans, Major Bigtime!!!

    The poster boy for the NRA, James Holmes was, until recently a model law abiding, gun tote’n Colorado good ol’ boy. Just the kind of guy that the US Supreme Court had in mind when they caved in to the big money in the gun and ammo industry and corrupted the meaning of the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. The NRA loves this kind of guy. He bought thousands of rounds of ammunition thus feeding money into the coffers of the companies that provide millions of dollars of support to the NRA. Too bad that there weren’t a bunch of people in the Aurora theater armed with AR-15s or AK-47s. I’m sure the ensuing gun battle in the tear-gas filled theatre would have resulted in hundreds of deaths but I’ll bet somebody would have gotten in a lucky shot and killed the perp… and think of all the ammo that would have been used up.

    What a country. Here we are, willing to sacrifice the of lives of innocents so that a few good ol’ boys have the constitutionally protected right to own an assault weapon. Hey fellas, any of you been out hunting with an AR-15 or AK-47 lately? Not much good for hunting deer but great for hunting people in a crowded theater.

    You’ve got a point about the POISON substance Alcohol but prohibition isn’t the answer. As history shows, it only does what prohibiting a perfectly safe & healthy, peace inducing, attention enhancing plant called Marijuana is doing, ie causing the $$$ to flow to the wrong people without a solution.

    Recent studies have shown that in places where MJ is quasi legal, traffic accidents by DRUNK drivers are down because mainly intelligent young people would rather relax w MJ than get violent & nuts using illness causing BOOZE. We won’t even mention Obesity here!

    Now I ask you, why is it that the pols keep filling prisons & allowing Alcohol, which totally induces violence & reckless mental function to be so easy to obtain & not the Peace Pipe? Do you think it’s for the same reason that the White Devils in America used Alcohol to bring down the Native American Nation??

    My thinking is, that if there would be a quantum shift in thinking in America, primarily by old farts, by making the beneficial & healing plant MJ available to ingest in cookies or tea, that the masses would gradually give up the Killer Alcohol & shift to a kinder, gentler relaxant like the MJ that they could even grow in their own back yard.

    Now MJ, How do you think Big Pharma, who’s biggest money making poisons, seriously addictive DRUGS are pain killers, aimed at you, feel about this? Do you think that they might go so far as to hire hit men besides bribes to keep our Elected Official in STEP & you addicted to your DOCTOR prescribed POISON???

I will remind all you loons that the 1994 assault ban did NOTHING to reduce gun crime, as DEMOCRAT evan bayh admitted yesterday. England has had a handgun ban since 1997 and their gun crimes have doubled, while d.c., chicago, and kerreys hometown of new york have the strictest gun laws, and yet still have the worst gun violence, hmmmmm. Why should the 99.9% of lawful gunowners be punished for the actions of a vast vast minority?? I already have an ar-15, and i have it because it’s fun to target shoot, i even let the local cops shoot it, for a price of course. Why should i be punished for the actions of this lunatic.
