From Gov. Tom Corbett’s media update at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, here’s “super-storm Sandy” by the numbers in Pennsylvania.

There is snow in western Pennsylvania:  six to nine inches near Ohio, about three inches in the Somerset area

About 1.3 million customers are without power, mostly in the southeast, but that is starting to track west, the governor said.

The storm caused two confirmed deaths, both involve falling trees – one in Berks County and one in Susquehanna County.

Over 600 people in 48 different shelters across the commonwealth.

So far, 38 counties in emergency declarations

More than 2,500 utility crews – mostly from the Midwest – have been deployed to help companies in Pennsylvania restore power, according to Rob Powelson, chairman of the state Public Utility Commission.

It is too early to estimate when power might be restored, Powelson said.

Currently, 433 bridges are out at the moment and roads are closed throughout the commonwealth.  However, speed restrictions on interstates have been lifted (except for I-79 and I-90 in the northwest).

Despite the severity of the disaster, Corbett said Pennsylvania had “dodged a bullet” to some extent because the state does not have a coastline.  Coastal areas of New Jersey, New York and Delaware took the brunt of the storm.
