Exclusive: Names Surface for New OPS President

By   /   July 31, 2012  /   7 Comments

Even as Omaha School Board President Freddie Gray fights to keep her job, Nebraska Watchdog has learned that a short list of possible successors is already surfacing.

The list includes OPS vice-president Mary Morrissey and board members Marian Fey and Justin Wayne.

Nebraska Watchdog has spoken with Fey and Wayne who refuse to comment about the situation.

Morrissey has not been available.

It appears the 12 member board will vote on Gray’s future next Monday.

Nebraska Watchdog is told it will take eight votes to oust Gray who is fighting off charges that she withheld information about the sexy emails that led to the resignation of superintendent-to-be Nancy Sebring.

By Nebraska Watchdog’s count it’s currently 6-4 in favor of Gray with two votes undecided.

At Monday’s meeting Fey and Morrissey (see video below) backed Gray’s handling of the Sebring saga.

But Wayne said Gray was no longer able to lead the 12 member board as it looks to hire a permanent superintendent; former Ralston Superintendent Virginia Moon has been hired as the interm superintendent.

The board will stick together and she will remain President. They do not have the guts to do anything else. What about the lawyer?

  • Dave

I hope Mrs. Gray cares more about OPS than she does about her political career. It may not have been intentional, but she screwed up! She and the attorney have lied thru omission, as a tax payer, I dont believe I could trust there word any longer. Be graceful, admit what you did and resign.
Ben Gray should also be ashamed of himself, he made her look weak and like his puppett.

  • Jazzee

Mrs Gray should resign or the board should get some guts and replace her. And her arrogant husband needs to back off the man said nothing but the word ‘pathetic’ and old ben acts like the fool he is
Do the right thing for a change act like adults and vote Mrs Gray out. we are tired of the same old same old grow up boys and girls put your big kid pants on

The only person floating Justin Wayne’s name as the new OPS Board president is Justin Wayne.

  • Jane Marsh

Actually that is not true. Justin Wayne is one of the few people that stands up to the rubber stamp OPS board. What is occurring with this board accurately depicts the OPS culture.

  • Kevin

The vote to keep her should be the other 11 members. What kind of corrupt system allows the person in question to vote in the “vote of no confidence” in regards to themselves?

  • Rich

Maybe he is just holding his rubber stamp upside down.
