Thank you!

When I started at Oklahoma Watchdog in January of 2011, my vision was “to shine a light on what is going on in Oklahoma government so that we can improve it.”  I’d like to think that over the past 18-months I’ve been able to let people see more of what their tax dollars are paying for and understand a little bit more about the system that spends their money.

Thomas Jefferson wrote:

There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves. They alone, if well informed, are capable of preventing the corruption of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray.

Oklahoma Watchdog will continue its mission of informing the public and exposing any corruption of power.  But today is my last day contributing to the site.

Thank you for reading my stories.  And thank you even more for being interested in how your government is working.

This is officially the saddest blog ever.

In the short time that Peter was editor of the Watchdog, he managed to establish the site as a real brand and presence in Oklahoma (when before it had suffered), was invited to testify before a House Committee on transparency in state
government, made the OK Watchdog Twitter feed a must-have for Capitol
insiders and news junkies everywhere, and wrapped up his Watchdog tenure with a high-profile guest op-ed in the Oklahoma Gazette. Kudos to your hard work, sir. You will be a hard act to follow!

I cling to the hope that this site continues with it’s transcriptive coverage of the actual operations of the Senate and House at the Capitol, this was perhaps the most insightful coverage of the actual thoughts and logic our legistature applies to the job of governance. IN turn, my hope is the reporting does not become merely the co-opted extension of “others” brand and message to be a mirror of content already out there. The site and it’s coverage were a one of a kind window- I just hope it does not close so we all loose the ability to look in at the unvarnished daily operations of our elected officals.
