Mayor Jim Suttle

UPDATE: Tuesday August 7, 9:00 a.m.

After falling ill and spending the weekend in an Ireland hospital Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle is back in Omaha, arriving last night by air ambulance.

According to the mayor’s spokesperson, Aida Amoura, doctors in Naas, Ireland ”out of precaution” did not want Suttle to fly home on a commercial airline.

Amoura says the 68-year-old mayor is not expected back at city hall until next week.

With his blood pressure spiking, feeling tired and dehydrated, Suttle checked himself into the hospital Friday.

Amoura says those symptoms were “under control” before Suttle left Ireland.

Suttle, who spent 10 days on an economic development trip in Europe, is expected to undergo additional testing in Omaha.

The administration has been going through some rough times lately, most notably a controversy over hefty raises Suttle gave to some of his top aides.

I am sure that all of Omaha…ALL OF OMAHA wishes Mayor Suttle a speedy recovery and a safe trip home. All other business and opinions can wait.

  • Beverly Hazuka

@Melinda….absolutely, after all, we are human.

  • Lynda

Perhaps much stress due to his giving a raise to his admin. An entire year early. Accountability is necessary.

  • Howard

Totally phony. “not feeling himself?” I don’t feel so good either — I just got home from my third job that I have to work to pay the taxes that his administration wastes. The same taxes that are paying for suttle’s vacation, a vacation I will never get to take, and boohoo . . . he isn’t ‘feeling himself.’ More lies.

  • Are You Kidding

You Tea Party scum have hit a new low. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • D. Mark

He found out that the people know about the raises he gave out!

  • L.A.

Here’s hoping the mayor is on the path to a healthy recovery. The nasty comments say more about those that write them.

  • Andrew

Godspeed Mayor Suttle on your journey back to Omaha!

  • ips

I think it would take some pressure off if he resigned

    hi

  • SoWhat???

Ten days of boozing and “fine dining” are likely to affect one’s blood pressure but I’d bet that having a controversy about undisclosed and unbudgeted double digit raises for your senior staff have a much more direct impact. BTW, I’m sure we’re paying for the Mayor’s “observation” and related medical expenses since the city is self-insured by the taxpayers. He’ll come back eventually and then dodge the media as he rests and then has even more taxpayer-funded tests to determine that he can’t party hard for 10 days in a row. Thanks again Dave Nabity for ensuring the recall failed and we are stuck with this clown until 2013.

Melinda: I didn’t notice any positive comments from you or any of your liberal, progressive, marxist, OWS types concerning the health of Senator Johanns. In fact all the OWS types that posted on that site were much more disparaging than any post I saw here. Apparently only liberals are entitled to sympathy and understanding for health related issues.

  • jimino

Is Johanns sick? What’s wrong with him? I hope he has good health insurance if he is.

  • Kevin

This just gave him more time to articulate his BS response as to the raises he gave out.

  • Howard

    EXACTLY!

  • Watching_From_Lincoln

No, he’s in Ireland, which has a Single-payer Universal Health Care for every person. If there has to be any sort of reimbursement (which I doubt), the cost would be 1/4 of what it costs over here in the States. SO, you should be happy that he’s seeking medical attention while he’s still in Ireland, as by doing so the Mayor is saving you Omaha taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars over the the cost of seeking the same care here in the U.S.

  • John

You know, the internet was so much better before the Tea Party.

Quit with the childish attacks and show some respect.

  • Bam

The mayor should take as long as he needs to recover. Of course, this raises questions about his fitness to serve.

  • Bev

I wish him a speedy recovery. After he gets better then it will be business as usual. (his business and his way)…….

  • chris

an air ambulance from europe is a bit extreme for dehydration and a spike in blood pressure…I have the feeling that they’re not telling the public everything

  • is

no one is wishing the mayor any ill luck or health. What’s childish is a person in office lying to his constituents about spending their money to give large, inappropriate raises to people he chooses, while everyone is experiencing a tough economy. And if you bothered to find out anything about the tea party you too could be an asset to this country
