DES MOINES – The former chairman of the Dubuque County Republicans has filed an ethics complaint with the U.S. House against Democrat Bruce Braley, who is seeking re-election in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.

Iowa Democrat Bruce Braley

Matt Giese last week filed the complaint, which takes issue with an email sent from Braley’s congressional email. In it, he invites Iowans to two deficit workshops, one of which will be held in Cedar Rapids later this month. Giese alleges that the Cedar Rapids event is in violation of ethics rules because it’s held outside of his district and Braley used a taxpayer-funded email account to publicize it, according to the complaint.

Braley staffers called the complaint baseless and provided officials with the House Administration Committee’s approval of the email prior to its release.

Braley is running against Republican Ben Lange, who announced the ethics complaint and highlighted it in a news release.
