NM: Martinez: What happens in private should stay private

Martinez: Secretly taped remarks should no longer be discussed.

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez says it’s time to move on from the secretly recorded remarks her chief of staff made — but her political opponents don’t want to.

“What should be in private should be left in private,” Martinez told KOAT-TV. “These two men have moved on.”

The two men she’s referring to are Keith Gardner, her chief of staff, and Senate pro tem Tim Jennings.

Roswell fire official Brian Powell taped a conversation with Gardner without his knowledge during which Gardner called Jennings a host of profane names. Powell turned over the tape to Albuquerque attorney and prominent state Democrat Sam Bregman.
