SANTA FE — If Republicans are going to take the majority of the New Mexico House of Representatives for the first time in 59 years — and if Democrats are going to maintain their edge — seats like the one in District 7 in Valencia County will be crucial.
And the race between Republican Kelly Fajardo and Democrat Andrew Barreras could be a close one, considering the nearly equal amounts of money both candidates have raised.
Barreras has raised $33,718, while Fajardo has raised $32,766 in the seat that opened up when state Rep. David Chavez, R-Los Lunas, stepped down to run against state Sen. Michael Sanchez, D-Belen.
