AUSTIN — A Republican political committee has asked the Texas Ethics Commission to decide if it can receive small-scale political contributions via text message, as is done in California and Maryland.
The Harris County Republicans posed the question in a 72-page request that includes examples of previously approved rules.
The group would use a smartphone application that identifies phone contacts who are registered voters in a given area.
The app then has a window that permits one-touch calls or emails to the voter. If the voter is amenable to the idea of texting a contribution, the process is completed.
