    Incomplete reporting here. Tell us what about the ads were false. How did Ewing defend himself? We heard Terrys’ accusation, let’s hear Ewing’s defense.

    Terry is going to crush Ewing. Ewing won’t even get majority of votes in North O and Ernie will get more votes in that district than Ewing. I saw him on channel 22 and even with lots of help from the moderator, he couldn’t string together much of a reason to vote for him.

    I would be much more interested in what Lee has done to stop the gridlock in Congress? Let us not forget he is still part of the problem in Washington and has offered no solutions! Impose hs own suggestion of term limits in November.

    Ads don’t matter anymore. Everyone already has their mind made up who they’re voting for. I do. Ewing has my vote.

    The ads are false. Other stations have covered Ewing’s explanation. Terry bases the deficit claim on incomplete budgets passed at the beginning of the year, not the final financial allocation from the County Board after salaries are negotiated. The negotiations happen with the Board, not the individual departments. The final budget is approved mid-year and reflects total allowable spending for that department. It appears that Ewing is correct that he has come in under budget every year he has been in office.

    Jeff, you’re wrong. Terry has made two points: 1) that Ewing made excessive budget requests every year, $1.2 million in all–that were denied by the county board. Ewing has no response to this and essentially concedes the point. 2: Ewing has overspent the budgets he was given at the start of the fiscal year by $688,000–another fact. You excuse the additions made by the board later-but that is a false choice. Ewing should have foreseen the salary increases or whatever beforehand. He had no idea what they might be? He could have put in a placeholder to his budget. But, the more important point is he should have cut the budget by an equal amount to keep it in balance with the approved budget. In my household, if I have an increase in spending in one area I make a cut somewhere else to stay in balance. Ewing could have done that but didn’t.

    Jeff: thanks for your input. Yawn: it’s a race between Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber; amazing Terry collects near $200,000 in salary plus another $100,000 in Cadillac benefits (courtesy of us, the taxpayers) The dipstick sleeps in his DC office to “save money” (instead of paying rent to us for his lodging). Geez, what if everyone could sleep at their place of work to save $$’s? Lee ‘works’ T thru Th and has every other month ‘off’ like all in Congress; don’t hear Congressional A-holes talk about CUTTING their salaries & benefits, tho–they’re ‘servants’, not ‘public employees’! There isn’t one single piece of legislation Terry has authored or co-authored the 14 years he has sucked off taxpayer teats! He’s got an “R” by his name, he’s subservient to his corporate sponsors, dumb and lazy but a ‘nice guy’—that’s all it takes for Nebraska Republicans to vote for someone –a big “R” label! Tweedle Dumber will win: his district was gerrymandered, er, ‘redrawn’ to assure him a win!

    The problem with that, Up in Omaha, is the overspending was outside Ewing’s control. It is the result of salary increases by the County Board that he is specifically told to disregard. I think Commissioner Duda’s retraction today, is proof enough that Ewing has never run deficits. As to the requests? Every department in Douglas County makes a request to the County Board for what they think they’ll need, and every request is cut down. The requests don’t mean diddly squat, as long as you end up under budget.

    Lee Terry is not part of the problem, the Democrats in the house are the real problem. When Obamacare was forced down the throats of every American against their will showed to us how the Democrats abuse power. Party line vote even when Stupak was assured that abortion would not be funded and was a fool to believe them. The Democrats got what they deserved and voted out of power.

    ewing said it wasn’t his fault…the county gave employees MORE raises so it shouldn’t count against him it should count against the county board that is what he said on the news…whatever john two government pensions are enough

    Lee Terry is one of the real problems in the House. Lee Terry’s votes in the House have contributed to at least $10 trillion dollars of our nation’s debt. Why? Because Lee Terry voted for 2 wars, medicare part D, bush tax cuts, TARP, etc, all of which went UNPAID and contributed to a great majority of our nations current debt. The GOP is so quick to point out the debt because they know how much of it they have contributed. Lee Terry has done nothing to curb GOP policies in the past, period.

    Amazing how GOP people worry so much about having Obamacare shoved down our throats. For those with a brain, we have had MEDICARE for 45 yrs, & so-called Obamacare is just a small addition to it. We senior citizens have ALL approved Medicare for over 2 generations, & GOP are just jealous because it is such a popular program. By the way, we LOVE having “healthcare” shoved down our throat. We’ll take all of that we can get.

    BUT WHAT WE DID NOT WANT shoved down our throat, was done by the good old GOP. (Namely, the IRAQ WAR) which nobody in their right mind approved — for FALSE WMD, (by “W” Bush). Despite waging a false war which caused bankruptcy of US Govt, & numerous “war crimes”, & being responsible for deaths & crippling of thousands of our soldiers, Bush happily resides (without spending one day in jail) in his new $4 million home in Dallas, while still going fishing at his Crawford Ranch. WE could be jailed for days just for protesting the criminal behavior of Wall Street, but of course the “Decider” of the USA can get by with every crime known to mankind, & get clean away with it. Why is that?
