TWICE IS NICE: Video shows Obama worker aiding an undercover journalist vote twice in the general election

AUSTIN — The Democratic National Committee has fired a staffer on President Obama’s re-election campaign, after she was caught on videotape aiding a voter whose stated intention was to cast ballots in two states.

DNC spokeswoman Melanie Roussell confirmed the termination of Regional Field Director Stephanie Caballero, calling her actions “wrong” and at odds with the group’s training. The firing follows the posting of the video Wednesday by the group Project Veritas, founded by conservative activist James O’Keefe.

The video depicts an exchange between Caballero and a woman with the Veritas group, who presents herself at Caballero’s office in Houston under the ruse of helping re-elect Obama. Caballero provides the woman with an application to request a Florida mail-in ballot, even though the woman makes it clear she also intends to vote in Texas.

The video depicts similar conversations at offices in other states.

“This individual’s actions were wrong and inconsistent with the training our employees and volunteers receive. Consistent with the standards we set for the conduct of our employees, the person in question has been terminated,” Roussell said in an email. “There is obviously a history here of making selective use of taped material, and we will certainly not vouch for the completeness of what was released. However, what we saw was enough for us to take the action that we did.”

When the Veritas representative declares in the video she intends to vote twice in the general election, Caballero laughs. She asks the woman, “Are you going to do what I think you’re going to do?”

“Well,” the woman replies, “I mean, if no one’s going to know … ”

Caballero laughs and replies, “You’re so hilarious.”

“I have several friends who have done that and they said that it’s no problem,” the woman says.

Caballero replies, “Come up with like, if anyone checks, say, ‘I don’t know.’”

It is illegal to vote more than once or to to help someone violate election law, election experts told Watchdog.org.
