NV: Union-backed tax proposal in legal limbo

ON HOLD: A Carson City judge has yet to rule on an initiative to tax businesses to fund public education.

CARSON CITY — A Carson City District judge on Friday heard the latest challenge to a teacher-backed petition that seeks a 2 percent tax on companies making a gross revenue in excess of $1 million a year to raise money for public education.

But Judge James Wilson did not rule on challenges to the “Education Initiative” filed by the Committee to Protect Nevada Jobs.

In the meantime, the Nevada State Education Association is continuing to gather signatures to qualify the measure for submission to the Legislature.
