NE: Head of DMV leaving

A spot will be open in Gov. Dave Heineman‘s cabinet next year.

He announced Monday that Department of Motor Vehicles Director Beverly Neth is leaving to assume the CEO position with the National Safety Council Nebraska in Omaha. Her last day will be Jan. 31.

“Bev has been an outstanding director of the Department of Motor Vehicles,” Gov. Heineman said in a press release. “Under her leadership, the Department of Motor Vehicles has become a technologically sophisticated state agency and a leader in providing access to online services to better serve the needs of Nebraska’s citizens. She has done a great job for Nebraskans.”

Accomplishments under her leadership include: modernization of the driver licensing legacy systems,  Organ Donor Registry and modernization of the motor vehicles systems, Digital License Plate System.

Neth, 50, was appointed by former Gov. Mike Johanns in 1999.  Prior to joining the DMV, she served as deputy director and legal counsel for the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services. She was a private attorney for nearly eight years before joining the governor’s cabinet.
