LANSING — Overcoming the large crowds that have descended upon the capital, Michigan House members approved legislation allowing workers to freely decide whether they wish to pay union dues as a condition of employment.

Fights have broken out in front of the Capitol, and at least one warming tent has been torn down.

The bill is the first of two considered by lawmakers, applying to workers in both government and private-sector unions.

The Republican-led House on Tuesday adopted one measure by a 58-51 vote, freeing government workers from compulsory union membership. A second bill, for private-sector workers, is expected to be passed later Tuesday.

Adoption of the laws would make Michigan the 24th “right-to-work” state.

Gov. Rick Snyder has indicated that he will sign the bills as early as this week.

Shouting “Kill the bill,” demonstrators attacked the warming tent of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative organization that supports the right-to-work legislation.

Unlike the labor battle in Wisconsin, which prompted the failed recall election of Gov. Scott Walker, Michigan union groups in the private and public sectors will still be entitled to collectively bargain for wages and benefits.

These idiots doesn’t have sense enough to know that the UNION is why they are out in the street acting like a bunch of monkeys. Where is their brain.??

Apparently AFP members were pegging union guys with pennies, telling them that’s how much their work is worth. Response was overkill, but also understandable.

Ronald Smith I live in a right to work state. The lowest paid state in the country with the exception of Mississippi. That’s what the right to work law gets you. I paid my dues anyway because I needed someone to represent me at the bargaining table. I’d be ashamed to take the money and benefits others were paying for.

If I knew any of those thugs were vets I wouldn’t lose a bit of sleep if some one knocked their heads of. Why you say for the simple fact they just the opposite of what their oath of office was when they entered service . That freedom they protected was every man and woman in America not just unions

If you make $25 an hr and that is all of a product you have done in that hour your company went in the hole for that hour, If you increased that production to $50 the company broke even,But if you boost that production to $ 75 then you have your company back what they have paid you. That is called operation expenses which goes to pay insurance and benefits upkeep on equipment and to pay the man that owns the business back for his investment.I do not know many men who can produce $ 75 an hour of a product he is working on when physical labor is required and if it is all computerized he is doing no labor at all, so where is the justification for these unreasonable union labor rates except except to fatten the pockets of the labor unions who are nothing more than dead beats making a living off the backs of the American work force .

Makes me think of occupy wall street. A bunch of a holes .When the Unions were first organized they were a good thing. But they have taken it totally the other direction. Now they want there people paid for setting on there ass and watching someone else do there work..Or they have one single job they do and if they are done they get paid for setting on there ass.I know that for a fact.
