CHICAGO – Illinois Lt. Gov. Shelia Simon says she does not expect her working group on guns to produce any legislation, issue a report, or make recommendations to lawmakers as the legislature tackles gun control this spring.
At a Chicago news conference Tuesday, Simon instead said she wanted to “talk” with both sides and try to keep the debate over concealed carry and a possible assault weapons ban from becoming too heated.
Simon was backed by a number of freshman lawmakers, some who say they had to deal with gun issues during their election.
