Fischer could vote to end debate but won’t vote for Hagel

Although U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer insists Chuck Hagel is not qualified to be Secretary of Defense, she said today she could vote to end the debate over Hagel’s nomination.

Deb Fischer said she will vote to end the debate over Hagel’s confirmation.

The end of the debate would apparently pave the way for Hagel’s confirmation vote, where it appears Hagel has enough votes to get the Pentagon’s top job.

In an interview with KFAB radio in Omaha, Fischer said when it comes time to vote up or down on Hagel’s confirmation, “I will be voting no on the floor.”

Hagel’s nomination stalled recently when his critics, including Sen. John McCain, said they had questions Hagel needed to answer.

Over the weekend McCain told Meet the Press it was time to move on.

“I don’t believe he’s qualified, but I don’t believe we should hold up his confirmation any further,” McCain said. “I think it’s a reasonable amount of time to have questions answered.”

Fischer, who said she did not have any more questions for Hagel, defended the move to delay Hagel’s nomination.

“There’s no reason to rush,” she said.

    WD: Perhaps you should clarify your puppet comment to read “she can’t be controlled by Vince Powers.” I’m suspicious of any democrat that supports a republican. It just isn’t done. As time permits, WD, please follow up on a story that states that college officials at the University of Nebraska, Omaha will not allow access to any of the numerous boxes of materials related to Hagel’s years in the Senate and thereafter. What does Hagel and the University have to hide? Why isn’t the Lincoln Star Journal or the Omaha World Herald or for that matter,Deena Winter covering this story?

    If Hagel isn’t qualifed to SoD, neither is Fischer qualified to be a U.S. Senator.

    Maybe fischer could be put on the budget committee …she could eliminate the renting of federal land for next to nothing while others have to pay the going rate renting private land….Is she going to address this or continue preaching about the federal deficit when she’s part of the problem….probably wants to discuss it with G. norquist or sarah palin first….

You rail against Deb Fischer, but when it REALLY counts, you fade like a whipped puppy behind your mama’s skirts!

    I am waiting with breathless anticipation to see which one of you have the guts it takes to run as a candidate next time around!!! In fact, you can run in 2014 for the seat being vacated by Mike Johanns . . . unless you don’t think you have what it takes! Are you afraid you will get beat, or maybe you just aren’t smart enough to do the job?

    Besides not everyone that recognizes Deb FIscher’s lack about quality or qualification needs to RUN for the Senate. You see, we deserve good quality representation from every person that swears to uphold the constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic.
    The enemies are not Nebraskans. But the Koch brothers and the Tea Party may qualify.
    So Touchy Turtle, why not stick to the points in the argument instead of trying to troll an attack on the other Commentators.

    It must be scary to think that these boxes hold some secret that the Department of Defense would have access to. After all, Hagel has been a security advisor to the President already. And whatever he may have given to UNO does not contain any Secret information.

    I think Fischer is a very vindictive woman and that the only reason she is against Chuck Hagel is because he backed Bob Kerry for Senate.
