OSAWATOMIE — If we can’t trust what the Obama administration says in public, how can we trust what they say behind closed doors?

That’s the message Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp fired-out during an interview Thursday with Sean Hannity on Fox News regarding the recent scandal involving the National Security Administration spying on online and electronic communications within and outside of the United States.

“If you lied to members of congress in an open hearing, how do we know you’re not lying to us in that classified briefing as well? It’s hard to trust what they’re saying,” Huelskamp said, blasting James Clapper, director of national intelligence, who lied through his teeth when initially questioned about the NSA’s spying initiatives in March.

The Western Kansan was joined by fellow Republican, Iowa Rep. Steve King, who denounced the program as something straight out of “1984.”

“When you put the whole picture together, it’s beyond creepy,” King said. “It’s beyond the imagination of George Orwell.”
